Polycarbonate (PC) is an engineering-grade thermoplastic known for its exceptional strength, impact resistance, and heat tolerance. It is widely used in automotive, aerospace, and industrial applications where durability is critical.
Properties
- Impact Resistance — One of the toughest printable materials available
- Heat Resistance — Withstands temperatures up to 140°C
- Optical Clarity — Naturally transparent with good light transmission
- Strength — Excellent tensile and flexural strength
- Warping — Highly prone to warping without proper conditions
Best Practices
- An enclosed, heated chamber is mandatory to prevent warping and cracking
- Use a high-temperature bed surface such as PEI or glass with adhesive
- Dry filament thoroughly before printing; PC absorbs moisture rapidly
- Print slowly (30-50 mm/s) for best results
- Ensure adequate ventilation as PC can emit fumes at high temperatures
